Missing in Action

Hi, everyone:

I know it's been much too long since I've updated my blog. I'm very sorry if you were worried! I'm also honored that you cared enough about the worlds I created to check in periodically to see what's going on with me and my upcoming works.

I did take a hiatus from writing because after writing so much so fast, I needed a little breather.

Now, I'm rested and I'm writing again. I finished the rough draft of a new project. It's not a Southern Witch story, though I do hope to get back to Tammy Jo and the gang again soon.

I'll update the blog again as soon as I have more details about when new stories will be available. (I'm going to take a workshop that should help me bring you something as soon as it's ready.)

In the meantime, please take care and happy reading!

Warmest wishes,

So many of you have emailed to ask whether there will be new Southern Witch audiobooks. I'm SO happy to tell you that Barely Bewitched (Southern Witch #2) is now available.

For those of you who, like me, love to listen to books, I hope you enjoy it! The narrator is one of my favorites. :)

Coming soon...

One remarkable thing about writing a series is that ideas can sometimes be percolating for years. When I began work on Would-Be Witch, I realized that Tammy Jo's closest living relatives were her aunt and her mother. Those witchy women did not appear in book 1 or book 2. We meet Tammy's Aunt Melanie briefly in Halfway Hexed. But it isn't until Casually Cursed that we will not only meet her mother Marlee, but actually get to see where she's been all this time. Are you excited? I hope so because I'm excited to have written this particular installment with so many mysteries finally revealed.

Coming to stores & sites on: FEBRUARY 3, 2015

Comicpalooza 2014

Comicpalooza in 2014 was the biggest and best yet. Thousands of people. Great costumes.

I had fun on panels with Rachel Caine, Martha Wells, DL Young and others.  I got to meet Southern Witch fans who were funny and charming. (SW readers are the best! Thank you for coming out!)

Cary Elwes was hilarious and handsome in person. So glad we made it to see him.

It was also fun to listen to an author friend's wild stories. Safe travels home, Mario!

I hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend wherever you were. Next year I hope to see you in Houston for Comicpalooza 2015

Kimber Sigthings : Part I

I am not as rarely sighted as a dusky seaside sparrow--that's a little inside joke for Southern Witch readers who are caught up on the latest in the series. Have you read your copy of Slightly Spellbound yet?--but I'm not spotted around town that often.

So when I visit places in person, I try to share the news & the pics. I know that you really want to see proof that I exist. ;)

These photographs were taken at my favorite bookstore, Murder by the Book. Like me, it can be found residing in Houston. I've signed there seven times since becoming published, and every time has been a blast! They have so many loyal customers, which isn't a surprise since the staff has a great eye for new talent!

As a reader I've been to fantastic MBB events. Jasper Fforde, Alexander McCall Smith, and Charlaine Harris are all so funny and charming in person, you would not believe it. Or you might, if you've read their books. ;)

Book Signing...TONIGHT!

Books are magical. I love them and if you're here, so do you. :) One place that books live before someone great brings them home is on the shelves of fantastic independent bookstores like Murder by the Book in Houston. It is, without a doubt, one of the greatest bookstores in the known universe.

If you can get to Houston by 6:30 pm tonight, we can meet there. I will be talking about my Southern Witch series and about whatever else comes up...movies, mysteries, awesome possums.

So jump in your car or your Tardis and come visit. You'll have fun. Promise!

Southern Witch story release!

It's been awhile since I've had a new story come out, so I'm excited to bring you the latest installment in the Southern Witch series. This 15,000-word story is short and fun and deals with a little problem that was left lingering at the end of Halfway Hexed. Here's the blurb:

It was the best of times, it was the cursed of times—in this Southern Witch novella from national bestselling author Kimberly Frost.

Tammy Jo Trask is headed to Galveston, Texas for the Dickens on the Strand festival, but there’s no idyllic vacation in her future—not with two magically shrunken ladies trapped in her luggage. Jenna and Lucy were trying to kidnap Tammy Jo when she took them down a notch. The only trouble is she can’t reverse the spell and neither can her gorgeous wizard beau Bryn.

Now Tammy’s hoping to get help from a Galveston ghost named Sally O’Shea. In exchange for her help, Sally sends Tammy Jo and Bryn on a strange and mysterious mission. Bryn is convinced it’s a wild goose chase, but Sally has a few dark secrets up her spectral sleeves, and their fool’s errand quickly turns epic.

Writing Hardships: Research in 4-star hotels

As you might imagine, a writer's life can be difficult. Sitting in bed in one's pajamas, drinking coffee and challenging.

But one of the most trying things has to be traveling to gorgeous places to do research. I recently traveled to the Tremont House in Galveston to stay for a night to do research for Magical Misfire, a Southern Witch electronic novella that comes out in April.

I needed to figure out how far the reportedly haunted hotel where Tammy Jo stays is from other locations. Is it in walking distance from the former Red Light district where there used to be a row of brothels during Victorian times? Is the hotel close to the pier where the party boats dock?

The Tremont was beautiful and the staff were lovely. I had all my questions answered and dinner was delicious. I was unfortunately not contacted by any of the resident ghosts. Maybe next time!

This is the local map I used prior to arriving to figure out the relative locations of things. Isn't it cute?

I also really appreciated websites that had information and pictures from Dickens on the Strand. (It's a yearly Christmastime festival where people dress in costume and the streets are transformed to Victorian era London. So much fun!)

The website that cracked me up the most however was one that helped me with slang used by Victorian prostitutes. More on that to come!

Here's the lobby. Isn't it great? The bartender made me an excellent Tequila Sunrise. Perfect for a beach vacation. Oranges are summery, aren't they?

Anyway, if you want a getaway, I recommend the island and this hotel. It's within walking distance to a lovely bookstore, some great eateries, a historical ship that actually sails, and a hundred-year-old sweet shop.

I know what you're thinking. The trials of being a writer never end. And yet...I will continue to soldier on. :)

During a small-town skirmish, Would-Be Witch Tammy Jo Trask foils a kidnapping plot with a spell that shrinks her nemesis Jenna to a doll-sized diva. When the reversal spells to restore Jenna’s size don’t work, Tammy Jo and gorgeous wizard Bryn Lyons are forced to turn to the ghost of a Victorian-era prostitute who haunts Galveston Island.

Since Sullied Sal only appears to tourists during the yearly celebration of Dickens on the Strand when Victorian food, fare, and fashion are once again the norm, Tammy Jo and Bryn join the festivities. Unfortunately being squeezed into a corset is just the beginning of the trouble in store for Tammy—and the island—when Tammy Jo and Bryn seek the advice of the gaudy ghost.
